How to connect the camera module to the Raspberry Pi

Raspberry Pi with Camera module

Side note… the camera in this picture was eaten by my cat. I since replaced it with a Sainsmart Wide Angle Camera.

Things Needed in this Project:

Software List:

Step 1.  Download all your Software

Download your software and have it ready to go on your PC.  The Raspbian download may take awhile, so start that first.  Start downloading the rest and take your beloved out to lunch.  It should be all ready to go when you get back.  Hopefully.

At least... this is how I did it.

Step 2.  Turn on Camera Functionality

Login to your RP3 with PuTTY or use the GUI.  I am going to be doing this through PuTTY but it should be super easy for you to find the configuration options if you are using the GUI.

To access config options through PuTTY, in the command line type:

sudo raspi-config

Go through and enable the camera. Once you are done, it will require a reboot.

Step 3.  Install Picamera

The installation is quite simple when you follow the documentation…  Rather than regurgitate it here, you can find the step by step instructions in the documentation: http://picamera.readthedocs.io/en/release-1.13/install.html

Step 4. Recipes!

Now you can issue some commands to take your photos!
